A great tip found at http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090831003645829..
That stupid 'system preferences needs to relaunch in 32bit mode' was very annoying. Most of the preference panes I went into asked me this.
However, the answer is simple, and like all the best tips, blindingly obvious once someone else has thought of it!
Always run Systems Preferences in 32bit mode! all the third party ones need it at the moment, and all the apple ones are written to work in 32bit as well so that they can run on the slightly older macs.
To do this: In finder, right click system preferences, Get Info then tick the 'Open in 32-bit mode' checkbox
No more pointless messages from sys prefs.
If only the same thing worked for screen savers :(
